Yesterday in southern Italy, five robbers successfully stole $2.3 million from an armored van using a pair of trackhoes.

According a local news source, the armored van was transporting $2.3 million (2 million euros) in cash for the Italian Post Office.

The thieves blocked the highway with burning vehicles, using the construction equipment to pry open the roof of the armored van, then scooping the payload out. the thieves then loaded up a nearby car and successfully escaped due to the trucks and construction equipment blocking the roadway for any law enforcement.

Locals say that "the trackhoes had been sitting in the path of the trucks for several days, however, did not attract any suspicion because of nearby roadwork".
